Thoughts on Monica and Bill

Almost everyone remembers the infamous events surrounding the affair between Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton. While we never condoned the actions of either, we were incensed by what transpired in our government during the entire episode. What's really funny today is that many of these same things are happening and noting ever seems to truly get resolved. Anyway, we hope you enjoy this blast from the past.

Recently we have watched and read in dismay, the unfolding of the "Monica and Bill" affair publicized so well in every media available. The dismay comes from the continued practice of both political parties to try and slam, slime, derail and otherwise destroy each other for the benefit of party politics... and at the expense of their constituents. We feel so strongly about this issue that we had to write about it.

Many people will read this and say, so what’s new? Federal, state, and local politics have always operated this way! Our point exactly. How much longer can we, the general public, afford to allow this gross waste of taxpayer financed time and effort. Most of our staff did not vote for Bill Clinton and we still disagree fervently with many of his policies both national and foreign. However, he is President of what we still would like to believe is the most powerful nation on earth. How can any politician argue that his personal life is more important than the current issues at hand for our country and our world?!

May we be allowed to remind everyone that...
1. What seems to be a very belligerent country in the Far East may have a nuclear arsenal.
2. The former Soviet Union provinces (now each independent countries) still also have access to a nuclear arsenal.
3. The fact that every minute of every day, someone is killed by someone else wielding a handgun or assault rifle (over 11 thousand last year alone!).
4. That many people in the wealthiest country on earth are still homeless and hungry.
5. That AIDS and the drug problem are still confronting all of us, and in fact getting worse all the time.

Can these same politicians argue the fact that any of the above are even remotely less important than the "Monica and Bill" affair. Now...while totally disregarding the major issues at hand, they are lining up to impeach a president for what amounts to a marital miscue and lying about it to us. Ah, excuse us, but DUH! What husband or wife can honestly sit there and say they wouldn't do the exact same thing if presented with this situation?! We are not in anyway condoning what "Slick Willy" has done. If we were his wife, we would most likely want him castrated. However there are so many issues that are so much more important to this country at the moment, wouldn't our politicians time be better spent on slapping "Slick Willy's" noodle and moving on?

We truly wonder if our two glorious political parties will save us...when after so much time is wasted in backbiting and foolishness...that just one of the problems mentioned above becomes totally out of control. What good will all the political wrangling do us then!! We’d really like to know????
