Lesson 2 Finding The Right Free Stuff Site

Lesson 2 of our free stuff tutorial - Help and information on safely finding a free site that offers what you want.

Student Speaking... So tell me how do I find free stuff without having to wade through a bunch of junk?

Professor Penguin Speaking... Finding the free stuff you want begins with finding the right site that offers them. There are 100's of free stuff sites on the Internet as evidenced by the "Other Sites" section on Cool Freebie Links. Speaking as an experienced freebie junkie, I've found that finding the right free stuff site is the first step in saving a whole lot of time and aggravation when hunting down the free offers you're interested in. But I regress, here are a few simple guidelines to follow in finding good free stuff sites.

  • Directories - I like directories because their listings are not automatically generated by a machine. Directory listings are posted manually by real human beings which in my opinion makes them more relevant. There are many reviewed directories now available on the ‘Net. A few of which include Google, Yahoo and (at the risk of blowing our own horn) CoolFreebieLinks to name a few. By using a directory, you are at least assured that a human has visited the site and verified/reviewed it’s content.

  • Major Search Engines -  They used to be notorious for returning out of date and inaccurate results on entered search terms. I remember using the word "free" in my search queries and being blasted with tons of X-rated and/or offensive content...or loads of other junk I didn't want to be exposed to. However, many search engines (specifically Google) have now incorporated safe content filters. These filters can be used to strip out unwanted returns in your search queries. This forces the search engine to only return extremely relevant content links. For this reason, quality search engines are now my # 2 choice for finding free stuff sites. Two of the best search engines in my opinion are Google and Ask.com. I suggest that you view the search engines "Help" section for more details on on search filtering.

  • Legitimacy - Look for free stuff sites that are in fact…well…free stuff sites. Some sites pose as free stuff sites when in fact they are nothing more than attraction pages for other content offered on the site. Look for sites that list their offers in separate categories and that update those offers on a regular basis. Steer clear from sites with description headers like "Tons of Free Money Making Offers" or "100's of Freebies to Make You Rich" or "100% Free Pictures and Other Free Offers" unless of course you're looking for that sort of thing. These are almost always marketing schemes for "pie in the eye" get rich scams or XXX adult content sites.

  • Extra Value - Any site can find and list free offers with just a one line text link. As you travel the Internet visiting free stuff sites, your sure to come across a slew of them that list offers like these examples: "Free Paper Samples", "Free Makeup Samples" and so on. While these may be legit offers, they sure don't give you much information to go on. Look for free stuff sites that include good, clear cut descriptions of the offers they list. This gives you a "minds eye view" of the offer before you spend the time to click over to it. The description doesn't have to be long and involved...just enough to give you some background information like:
  1. What exactly is the offer for, e.g., free printer paper, free lipstick etc...
  2. What area is the offer valid in, e.g., U.S., Canada, Internationally.
  3. How do you apply for the offer, e.g., online form, toll free number, email.
  4. Are there any special requirements, e.g., filling out a long survey, for businesses only etc...

The above examples are just snapshots of value added information a free stuff site can list in their offer descriptions. The bottom line here is that any tidbit of info can be a real time saver and an extra level of security as well.

Student Speaking... Gee, that’s nice O’ Wise One…but can you tell me what kind of free stuff can I find on these sites?

Professor Penguin Speaking... Oops, guess I should have made that the first lesson…follow me to the next lesson O’ Student of Freebiedom and I’ll give you the lowdown on that and much more…
